Lynne’s academic background includes a BA in Russian, a BA in Editorial Communications, an MA in Russian Literature and an Ed.D. in Higher Education Policy, Governance and Administration.

As Spirit On the Rock’s founder, her teaching and non-profit expertise is extensive. In her twenties, Lynne founded and for eight years ran, a non-profit English as a Second Language school. For fifteen years she designed and taught a senior internship seminar at the University of Puget Sound for graduating university students. This seminar (often taught two sections a week) helped students clarify their values and explore their spirituality and personal power through journaling and other methods.

Lynne also worked as a university administrator for nine years: five as the Director of Institutional Research at the University of Hawai’i at Hilo, and four as the Associate VP for Institutional Effectiveness and Planning at both California State University at Monterey and Texas A&M International University in Laredo, Texas. She also taught graduate classes to Texas A&M International students who were seeking to become school principals in Texas schools.

Frequently Asked Questions

As this is a silent retreat, we have provided all the essential information below. For your convenience, a complete welcome guide will also be waiting for you in your room upon arrival.

For any additional questions, please contact Lynne here.

What kind of food and beverages are provided during the retreat?

Lynne is an excellent cook. A wide variety of nutritious and healthy options are available to Spirit On the Rock guests, including make-it-yourself fruit smoothies, a drawer in the kitchen of high-quality protein bars and applesauce for anyone who may be feeling the need of additional sustenance.

Homemade cooking and breakfast supplies, such as non-GMO granola, organic yogurt and organic dried fruits and nuts, are located in the cupboard under the water filter, as are dried soups such as microwaveable udon and raman. Homemade meals are made with all natural, organic ingredients, but also include chicken or fish as spiritual work requires a happy body and high level of physical energy.

Fasting is also an option and ingredients for the universal cleanse are available: fresh lemons in the fridge, cayenne and maple syrup in the cupboard.

Filtered water is available in the kitchen 24 hours a day.

Our coffee maker makes delicious coffee by the pod or pot, and guests are urged to help themselves. Several varieties of tea are available in the cupboard.

What is the daily rhythm and atmosphere at Spirit On the Rock?

Guests are encouraged to roam the campus at all hours, should they so desire: flashlights are made available in the guest rooms for night wandering.

The entry gate is locked 24/7 when retreats are in session, Lynne will sit on the large lanai every two hours for deep meditation and guests are invited to join her physically in group or psychically IN PRESENCE, from any other location on campus.

To aid in your process here at Spirit On the Rock, and in solidarity with your efforts on behalf of the human race, Eckhart Tolle and his foundation have gifted you with two of his pivotal works, The Power of Now, and the Power of Now Journal.

Except for Lynne’s quarters on the top floor, Spirit On the Rock guests are welcome into every corner of Spirit’s campus at any time of day: the swimming pool (swimming suits not required) and other campus amenities are open to guests on a 24-hour basis.

Guests are encouraged to move chairs around campus (there are additional light-weight chairs in the Muay Thai studio) for their convenience and pleasure. After a swim, feel free to light your way with your flashlight to the outdoor shower on the east side of the residence for a hot shower. There is a washing machine and dryer where you can warm up or dry your towel.

Can I use electronic devices during the retreat?

Guests are asked not to use electronic devices at Spirit On the Rock, except as a meditational aid.

Earphones are recommended so as to not disturb your fellow guests.

How should I arrange my transportation to and from the campus?

Rental cars are discouraged and guests are asked to arrange their transportation to and from Spirit On the Rock Before the beginning of the retreat.

Because of the 6AM start, it is understood that guests will likely book themselves into another venue before and after the Spirit On the Rock retreat, and arrange their transportation to the airport accordingly. Please allow 30–35 minutes in light traffic from Hilo Airport.

Meditation Details

Participants are invited to join Lynne every two hours, from 6:00am to 6:00pm, in SILENT meditation on the large lanai. In the first and last meditations of the day, participants are invited to participate with Lynne in speaking the meditation aloud.
SILENCE is the operational mode for the rest of your time of deep rest and contemplation at Spirit On the Rock.

Daily Gratitude Meditation 6:00 a.m.

Divine Order takes charge of my life, today and every day.
All things work together for good for me today.
Today is a new and wonderful day..I am divinely guided, all day long, and whatever I do prospers.
Divine Love surrounds me, enfolds me, and enwraps me, and I go forth in peace.
So be it! So it is.

Daily Solidarity Affirmation 6:00 p.m.

“Mother Father God, creator of all things.
Let us dwell with you in Spaciousness.
Hallowed be Thy name.*
Thy Kingdom--domain--of Universal Consciousness--come.
Thy will be done…on earth as it is in Heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread.
And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us.
In solidarity with Universal Consciousness, we build our house on solid rock and
are led not into temptation, but delivered from Evil.
For Thine is the Kingdom, and the Power, and the Glory,
forever and ever.
Amen!”

So, it is!
